New songs, new album

The next batch of songs will be recorded for the new album during may, its been fun whittling the material from around 20 new tracks to just ten. The interesting thing is how some tracks just turn up, we have a new as yet unnamed track that just came , fully formed last monday and is a def. for the new record. The older tracks wont be scrapped though, we’re going to leave them for later, hopefully, at least i hope, we’ll do some more recording soon after this albums done and have another ready quite quickly. As the Dial who loves the recording process more than anything else i could happily spend everyday in the studio so the prospect of having lots of tracks that are just begging to be recorded is great.

I think this album will be more direct and simpler in terms of sounds than the last, really its ten tracks of pretty straightforward pop stuff, albeit with our trademark sounds all over it…but some departures from the last one, its less country IMHO, and theres a shortness to the tracks which works well…poptastic in fact…and we are covering new ground, doing stuff we’ve never done before, like more blues based songs….should be fun.

New tunes at the Ranelagh

We returned to one of our favourite venues in Brighton, The Ranelagh Arms, to run through a whole batch of new tunes (8 in total). All were really well received, so everything bodes well for the next album (recording of which starts in May).

The new tunes, including titles like Blue Pine Yodel, Good Morning Mr. Magpie, Midnight at the Village and Sobres Los Pinas, are an eclectic bunch but have ’Dials’ stamped all over them.

If you want to catch some of them, why not come along and see us at The Albert on 27th Feb?

The Dials go country

……well into the country at least.Another one of our weekends in the middle of a field in Lewes has yielded a batch of new songs which will form the basis of our next album. Prospective titles are “Hijack”, “Sobres Los Pinas” and “Good Morning Mr Magpie” and there are a few interesting musical departures.

However die hard Dials fans will be pleased to learn we’re still tearing up the floorboards with 50’s inspired instrumentals and psyche and country flavoured tunes.

You heard it here first!

Recording for the new album starts after Easter.

New Years Eve with The Dials

After some time off we’re back with a bang for New Year’s Eve at The Brunswick at Hove. We’re on about nine, but the club (with DJs) will run until 3 in the morning. We’re happy to report that we’re playing with the fantastic Curst Sons so we’re certainly looking forward to it. You can now get tickets directly from the venue, both online and over the phone. At £12.50 it’s got to be your best option for New Year’s, you even get one free drink…so hopefully we’ll see you there.

The Dials ‘get political’ with John Pienaar

The Dials with John PienaarWe had read up on Brighton Council facts and foibles, and we had even gotten to grips with party politics (well kind of) but all John Pienaar wanted to talk about when he interviewed us was the band…which I suppose can’t be a bad thing. Unfortunately, despite our invitation, John won’t be joining us on stage at any point soon, but who knows…we reckon - as the show’s producer says he’s got a belter of a voice - he may a backing vocal slot on our next album. Stranger things have happened (and have happened lots to us recently).

No show at Walthamstow

Broken Strafford minibus We would like to apologise to anyone who had come out to see us at Walthamstow Festival and to Ramblin’ Steve who had asked us to play. Our hired minibus broke down on route (on the M25) and we were left stranded with no help coming form the hire company (their emergency number was dead!)

When a breakdown truck finally appeared (from the AA) they pronouned the vehicle ’dead’ and only had space to to fit 2 of us with no gear (despite them agreeing to send something big enough).

Unfortunely, despite everyone’s (including Steve’s) best efforts, we couldn’t make it on time. Needless to say we were gutted as it’s one we really wanted to play…..hope all went well, and big up to Steve and Ali for putting the whole thing together.
